Resignation Letter For Illness

  • By | Comments Off

A resignation letter for illness is difficult to write, since it is an admission that the health problems are so challenging that you cannot continue working. Take care when writing a resignation letter due to illness, because the information in this letter becomes part of your personnel file.

At a minimum, it will be read by the manager. It may be read by Human Resources or legal professionals as well. For this reason, do not include potentially embarrassing information in the letter. Nor should you apologize for the illness, since it isn’t your fault.

The resignation letter at a minimum should include your contact information, a clear statement that you are resigning and your last date of employment. If you have questions about how unpaid vacation days will be handled, wish to use sick leave to cover part of the time period before the formal last day or want to arrange to work from home in your last days, these matters should be discussed with management or Human Resources outside of the resignation letter.

Ideally, these matters are discussed in person with HR while planning your resignation and transition of responsibilities. It is not necessary to state that you would return if your health provided for it. It is polite to thank the company for the years of service and career opportunities they provided.
